HOMEGROWN SUSTAINABLE CLOTHING BRANDS

2020 is the year of addressing many of the rising issues; we’re all making more conscious decisions, reflecting on our well being, mental health, and even acknowledging issues like global warming. Spending months locked down at home was challenging but on the brighter side it gave us the time to sit down and reflect. Just like all of you, I love fashion too, but I’m also a firm believer of minimalism, the KonMari method instigated that, ‘less is more’ spark in me. The KonMari method by Marie Kondo is to have items in a house that spark joy. As simple as it sounds, as you look around yourself you will find a space full of materials you don’t need but it is so hard to get rid of!

When you apply the KonMari method to your wardrobe full of clothes, it is overwhelming with all the clothes that one owns and yet has nothing to wear? The current world of fast fashion, it is so easy to get driven by constantly shopping for newer clothes that we don’t use it as often and get rid of it easily. On the other hand, sustainable fashion is for the people and planet; it promotes slow fashion, conscious fashion trends that last longer, and even up cycles clothes. I do love myself some trends, but I’m trying to take one step at a time towards a wardrobe full of sustainable items bought from brands that are vocal about their making process.

Sustainable fashion is the future, because this reduces emissions of greenhouse gas, saves animals, saves natural resources, it supports fair pay to the artisans, less to zero waste, and promises a better tomorrow for the future generation. Imagine if we are able to contribute towards so many ongoing issues, in fact this way we end up buying less, saving more and do not compromise on the quality of our clothes.  Sustainable brands produce items in small quantities and not in mass, so the styles stay unique to a few, clothes made by artisans become a piece of art that your wardrobe will treasure forever.

Here are a few homegrown sustainable brands I love and I’m sure you would love them too –

We are all in the journey of adapting to a complete sustainable lifestyle but until the time we get there entirely, let’s make less impromptu fashion purchases and more conscious choices. Let’s buy less and re-use more, let’s sustain items for a longer time and pass it on to somebody who can make use of it or reuse it for other purposes like converting it into a cloth bag. If you have any more ideas comment down below and spread the word for a sustainable future.
