Brace yourself for a stripes extravaganza, as this classic makes its mark. From Spring-Summer 16 to the forthcoming fall-winter, stripes were all over the runways courtesy luxe labels like Valentino, J Crew, Isabel Marant, and Yves Saint Laurent. Stripes may have always been a part of fashion nomenclature, but now it’s an all-encompassing trend. From garments to sky high heels and easy slip-ons to clutches and fancy bags, these alternating rows of multi-hued bands are everywhere.

There are many ways to work this haute trend. Experiment with diagonal lines, Chevron patterns, broad bars, or classic pinstripes. Take your cue from the French (who else) or celebrities Sarah Jessica Parker, Deepika Padukone, and Kangana Ranaut, or—our new favourite—Anne Hathaway in Christopher Kane at the premier of Alive Through the Looking Glass (2016).
An all-striped look is to die for, but not easy to pull off. Pick vertical lines over horizontal to create an illusion of height. Colourful stripes are on-trend, but make sure you choose complimentary hues to nail the look. And don’t just stick to the basic tee—not when there’s so much on offer. Choose from bodycon dresses, bell-shaped skirts, bags and clutches, and sky high heels.
Don’t leave your best pieces sitting at the back of your closet. Dip a toe into the stripes saga and celebrate this trend.
