Ramesh Dembla’s shows are crowded affairs. Never mind the traffic-choked way to Sheraton Grand, venue of this year’s Bangalore Fashion Week Fashion Week, but the Bangalore-based designer and fashion entertainer always commands a full house. Known for his spectacular presentation and celebrity showstoppers, Demla’s newest collection was named after—and inspired by—the silver fox.
Not surprisingly, the collection was dominated by yards of shimmering silver fabrics, with black accents and feathers. Lots of feathers. “I’ve always lived on the wild side. The collection is very sexy, edgy, and exudes oomph factor, perfect for festive occasions and red carpets,” said Dembla speaking after the show. The designs for men were more subdued, substituting silver sparkle for ikat prints in bandhgalas and sherwanis.
Showstopper Elli Avram who wore a voluminous sparkler of a gown said, “I feel like a tough and sexy Snow White in this outfit.” Dembla’s unabashedly glamorous may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but they set the mood for a glamorous fashion week.
Dembla’s show was the finale of the first day of Bangalore Fashion Week. In its 15th edition, the extravaganza is slated to wrap up on Sunday, August 5 with a grand finale by Archana Kochhar.
