As the inaugural day of Amazon India Fashion Week unfolded, we discovered a marriage of diverse design aesthetics. The evening started with Sanjay Garg’s old world-inspired ethnic ensembles and ended with Shivan & Narresh’s uber-contemporary resort wear collection. Between the two shows, we spotted a bevy of designers showcasing gorgeous saris, easy separates, and hybrid pieces that strongly suggest that we may need a bigger wardrobe for summer.
Sanjay Garg
The Raw Mango founder showcased his eponymous line rich in brocades and jewel-toned weaves. Our picks: Long, regal kurtas with pants.
Vaishali S
Her affinity for textiles is well-known, and Vaishali impressed with her new diaphanous dresses, fluid separates, and drapes to die for.
Vineet Bahl
Confection shades, timeless whites, fluid fabrics, relaxed cuts, and a subtly androgynous vibe—the collection is the stuff chic summers are made of.
Anavila
The designer gave her signature woven saris a new spin with metallic details taking it straight to the top of our wish list.
Kavita Bhartia
Abounding in surprises, Bhartia’s asymmetric silhouettes, interplay of powdery hues, and delicate graphics made her collection a real winner.
Rabani & Rakha
We can never have enough of blues and white. The duo’s ethnic and fusion designs in the two hues make for dreamy summer wedding ensembles.
Shivan & Narresh
Swimsuits may be the duo’s signature, but the new Diego Rivera-inspired collection wooed with its embellished separates and tasselled saris. l
