After the frost of February, comes the warmth of March and along it brings fresh vibrant spring summer trends! 2019 is all about paying an ode to the past decades, however, with a twist; making the frumpy, fun and introducing a frutilicous colour palette to play with. Let’s look at what this season has in store for us!
YOUNG LACE
Victoria Beckham | Alexander Wang | Elie Saab
Lace has ditched its old avatar and old joints, it’s no longer doing the rounds at lady luncheons and instead is loitering around the streets with the ‘COOL’ kids. Lace this season has a more street vibe, it has shed its former dainty appearance and is now taken over a tougher, androgynous form.
GIGANTIC BOWS
Erdem | Emilia Wickstead | Celine
The girly bows you adorned as a kid just got bigger and more badass for their 2019 walk down the runway. They were seen all over the runway sprawled across the waist, flopping over the shoulder or sitting right underneath the collar; the louder it gets the better!
RUFFLES
Coach 1941 | Simone Rocha | Marine Serre
Ruffles, this season came in all shapes and sizes. From shy to in-your-face, from granny to grunge; this season embraced them in all styles and the outcome was stunning! Ruffles embellished both the dresses and the separates!
NEUTRAL GAME
Tom Ford | Balmain | Max Mara
This season once again is about the head to toe look. Popular hue? Beige! Various designers put forward their aesthetic bathed in this basic tone. The silhouettes went from classic to modern, tailored to everything-but-tailored, what stayed was the impact of this earthy tone!
TIE DYE
Prada | Calvin Klein | Stella McCartney
The 70s are still going strong, even more than three decades later. Tie-dye was spattered across the runway, the hippie vibe repackaged in a hip avatar! In 2019, tie-dye gained some street cred. See for yourself!
BIKER SHORTS
Area | Fendi | Laquan Smith
We didn’t think ‘cycle shorts’ being back in trend would be good, but we were wrong. In their 2019 update, these babies need to be taken for a ride around the town!
PRINT MISH MASH
Dolce & Gabbana | Self-Portrait | Gucci
This season, the brief was simple – the crazier, the better! Prints of all colours, patterns, styles, eras were mish-mashed together to create a heady cacophony. In some places the outcome was stunning, some scary – both however made a statement.
FRINGE
Marc Jacobs | Loewe | Calvin Luo
This season the line between carnival and catwalk is super thin, the runway exploded with sassy fringe details, bold crystal embellishments and funky feather add-ons! The mantra simply being – More the merrier!
FOLKSY
Louis Vuitton | Michael Kors | JW Anderson
Macrame, crochet, fishnets, 70s patchwork and other folksy elements were seen all over the runway. We love the rustic handmade vibes these pieces channel, and while the silhouettes are modern, it is still a nod to the traditions.
