Praise spring-summer all you will, but winter is my favourite time. The sun takes a chill, year-end parties beckon, and fashion seems straight out of a 1950s black-and-white flick. The last bit is also a sore point. Neutrals are classics, but winter’s sea of blacks, browns, and greys seem to drown every other shade in sight. Since fashion is evolving and cliche is passe, why not add a splash of colour to your winter wardrobe? Take a cue from our style hacks, easy breezy as summer, as we dress up in every hue imaginable. All done without parting from our beloved neutrals.
Colour Block with Accessories
One superb thing about winter fashion is it brings forth an array of accessories to play around with. Choose from scarves, mufflers, mittens, gloves, caps, leg warmers, socks…phew, it’s a long list of chill-beating extras. Take your pick to amp up even the most neutral ensemble with a bubblegum pop of colour.
Brilliant Outerwear
Whether it‘s parkas, hoodies, sweaters, or a coats, an outerwear in a head-turning hue can light up the entire outfit. It’s overpowering but in a good way. A firm fashion statement worldwide, bright over muted is your way to channel a street style star while keeping warm and cheerful through winter.
Coloured Fur
Fur screams luxe like no other winter fabric. Multi-hued fur is the way to go this season with green, red and blue fur making major style strides forward. Whether you prefer a faux wrap around your neck or a cap, decadent coverage with a jacket, or fur-trimmed clothes and accessories, it’s all FURRfect this season!
Prints and Patterns
Oh yes! Prints reign supreme even through the dipping temperatures this time around. You may have lived your summer in leopard prints, florals, Aztecs, and stripes, and these motifs are just as popular in their fuzzy, colourful avatars, as they were in your breezy summer dresses. Give and take a sleeve or two.
Mix and Match
So pop colours aren’t your thing, but a splash of primary colours teamed with neutrals suffices to elevate your style. A green or blue outfit with aubergine accessories (think stockings) will make for an equally impressive combo as any neon shade would.
Fashion is a game with a singular rule—there are NO RULES. Don’t spend the winter hiding your true colours behind a shroud of neutrals. Take a risk, play with multiple hues and watch as your ensemble enlivens even the coldest, dullest days of winter.
