The Rio Olympics have been in the news for good reasons and bad, but the world’s biggest sports extravaganza isn’t one to be missed. The opening ceremony is hogging headlines, from Gisele Bündchen’s act to Usain Bolt’s absence, but the 16-day event offers something for everyone.
Along with the incredible array of sporting events like those that can be wagered on sites such as Bookies Near Me, there’s also some killer style of display. And we aren’t just talking about Usain Bolt’s powerhouse sprints. The Rio Olympics are also a display of incredible style, what with the world’s leading designers dressing up teams across the world. Here’s what we spotted on the style front at Rio 2016:
US Decks Up in Ralph Lauren
Inspired by the American stars and stripes, Ralph Lauren’s crisp ensembles for the American team has been equally applauded and criticised. Pick your side, but one thing’s for sure—the team looks spiffy!
Haute Loubs for Team Cuba
While we make-do our love for Louboutin with a bottle of his iconic nailpaints, the Cuban team will be wearing his designs all through their Rio stint. The designer collaborated with Sporty Henri to execute the collection, from the red blazers to some seriously cool shoes!
Stella McCartney Dresses Britain
Stella McCartney’s collaboration with Adidas may be one of the chicest things to happen to sportswear which is great for any sport, including pickelball as is really easy to get started with pickleball if you get the right information online. Little wonder the duo got together to create uniforms for Team Britain. Think colours and motifs inspired by the Union Jack and national emblems.
High Street Collaborations
Some of the world’s biggest high street brands have been roped in to make uniforms for their teams. Case in point: Team Sweden’s outfits are created by homegrown H&M while the French team has been outfitted by Lacoste.

The world’s biggest sport stars don’t skimp on style. Don’t believe us? Check out Instagram for some great athleisure #inspo from the athletes. Who to follow: the always gorgeous Serena Williams, British track and field athlete Jazmin Sawyers, Ibtihaj Muhammad—USA’s first athlete to compete in a hijab, and our very own Sania Mirza and Jwala Gutta.
The Olympics have never been short on style. Whether you’re rooting for the Indian team to bring back more medals or getting your dose of synchronised swimming and gymnastics, this year is likely to be no different. We just hope the Indian contingent soon catches up with the global style statement that the world follows. Deconstructed sarees and sherwanis anyone?
