The cold winds are a reminder that winter is at its prime, and the season of glorified outerwear certainly calls for chic styling. Perhaps for this reason we saw an array of choices laid out in the fall collections, with sharp tailoring and bouclé knits taking centre stage. Keeping in mind both comfort and style, we bring to you the best of winter coats.
Shearling and fur coats
Though fur has had its fair share of glory, its continued presence on the bigger runways (think Prada) gives us reason to believe there’s more to come. If winter doesn’t give you inspiration to get a shearling coat, we don’t know what will! It doesn’t necessarily have to be an all-fur coat; opt for a faux fur lined neck or cuffs instead.
Military inspired coats
The ‘officer-inspired’ dressing theme has been a raging trend this season, with various design houses going for military inspired attires. From Dolce & Gabbana’s beautifully detailed jackets to Burberry’s subtle coats, the military inspiration has been seen on ample runways to give it a fair validation.
Capes
Never has a piece of outerwear made our lives so versatile and easy. If you are one to focus on looking urbane whilst seeking comfort, this is your go-to outerwear. With varied versions of it seen on this year’s runways too, there is absolutely no dearth of options.
Trench coats
Anything said about this category is less, for Thomas Burberry’s iconic clothing has always been desirable. Cinched elegantly at the waist, the trench coat truly evokes a sense of Parisian chic, providing comfort simultaneously.
Parkas
No winter wardrobe is fully complete without a parka, which is the only saving grace for lazy days and unexpected winter showers. Given Versace’s Pre-fall collection had few of them, this trend is going nowhere for at least a while.
Oversized coats
Brighter hues and patterns are dominating larger coats, and we couldn’t be happier! Brought to the limelight by Gigi Hadid’s off-duty model style, this item of clothing is a must-have.
